Boeing workers vote to accept deal, end strike
Boeing Workers End Costly Strike, Accept New Deal #
Striking employees at Boeing have accepted the company’s latest offer, concluding the most expensive U.S. strike in over 25 years. The machinists’ union reported that 59% of members approved the proposal. Earlier, nearly unanimous rejections of Boeing’s initial offers prolonged the strike. The settled contract grants a 13% immediate raise, followed by 9% yearly increases for two years, and 7% in the fourth year. A $12,000 ratification bonus is included, though traditional pension plans remain unchanged, continuing a trend away from such retirements benefits. The strike, beginning September 13, resulted in significant financial losses for Boeing and disruptions across its vast supplier network and the U.S. economy. Despite ongoing challenges, Boeing is eager to resume its operations and recover its market standing, with employees returning to work starting Wednesday.
